Things are popping at the garden!
1) THE WATER IS ON for filling rain barrels. When you're working on your plot, please fill a rain barrel (or two or three) while you're there. The rub, of course, is remembering to turn the water off when a barrel is full. You wouldn't be the first person to walk out of the garden forgetting you have a hose running in a barrel so pay attention. Be careful not to drag a hose over plots and hoses are not to be used for watering plots. That's what our rain barrels are for. Thanks. If everyone helps by filling a barrel or two, we won't have to form a work party to get that task done. When we're sure we're past having a freeze, we'll start the automatic drip irrigation and will let you know. Use the rain barrels in the meantime.
2) MANURE HAS BEEN REPLENISHED. It's available for our gardeners for $5 per wheelbarrowful. Pay in the Castle. Please cover the manure well after you've taken what you need.
3) WORM CASTINGS ARE FOR SALE IN THE CASTLE: Worm castings are the richest natural fertilizer known to man, which is perfect for our organic gard Put a small handful (1/8 cup?) in the holes dug for your transplant at the beginning of the season. Look for the container marked WORM CASTINGS in the castle. One yogurt container will cost you $1. Please return the yogurt container when you've finished so the next gardener has a measure. Pay in the Castle. If you want a bag of your own, you can purchase some at Forget-Me-Not Floral in town.
4) FORTEX BEANS are now available in the Castle...as are our cookbooks. Jackets can be ordered. See bin in Castle.
5. OUR FIRST HAPPY HOUR OF THE SEASON is next Friday, May 25 from 4-6 pm. Bring your own beverages and an appetizer to share, and meet your fellow gardeners to exchange ideas and tips for growing. If you have extra seeds or extra plants you overbought, bring those to trade/share, as well. These Happy Hours are always a lot of fun and educational.
REMEMBER WE'RE AN ORGANIC GARDEN. No chemicals are allowed inside our fence--that includes all Miracle-Gro products. If you're in doubt, ask us.
Hope to see all our veteran gardeners and meet the 2018 crop of new gardeners at the May Happy Hour!
Happy Gardening!
