garden pests
VOLES: In 2017 there was a vole problem in the garden. Here are some links to articles on the subject:

The best advice (second to putting cats in the garden) is to dig a 12" deep trench around the perimeter of your plot. Voles will not cross the trench. Check under your bushy spreading plants (rhubarb, chives, etc.--and under straw or hay) for small holes 1.5"-2" in diameter. These are the entrances to their castles. Put mousetraps nearby (watch your fingers!) - peanut-butter-and-rolled-oats is a favorite for them. Also, try cutting the bottom off tall plastic cups and put these around your seedlings to protect them from being nibbled from above ground.
